We love getting to see all of the great things our Girl Scouts are doing in their local communities! In October, our girls were busy making an impact by encouraging literacy, contributing to a community garden, sharing the value of Girl Scouting and so much more.

Daisies get outside to learn about pollinators.

Daisy Girl Scouts from Troop 40170 in Centre County learned about the importance of pollinators and their impact on the environment. The girls got to name a Monarch butterfly, tag it, and set it free.

York County Girl Scouts encourage literacy in school through mural.

Girl Scouts from Troop 20405 in York County created a mural in a local school library for their Silver Award project. The girls hope their mural will inspire a love of reading and imagination for young students.

Daisy grows interest in science through STEM in the Outdoors event.

Daisy Girl Scout Charlotte from Dauphin County developed a fascination for all things STEM after attending GSHPA’s STEM in the Outdoors event. Since attending the event, Charlotte has asked for her own aquaponics lab, requested all the science kits used by Lehigh University for her Christmas list, and is interested in learning more about Spotted Lantern Flies.

Seniors and Ambassadors address book banning.

Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts from Troop 11006 in Dauphin County celebrated National Banned Books Week by collecting 65 banned or challenged books to create book swag bags for children of all ages. Along with an age appropriate book, the bags provided more information about banned books and the importance of standing against book banning. Through their project, the girls hoped to encourage the community to protect children’s freedom to read.

Daisies and Brownies celebrate Girl Scouts’ 110th birthday in the most literal way possible.

Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts from Troop 20391 in York County participated in the annual Farmer’s Fair in Dillsburg by handing out free lemonade to fair attendees. The girls also walked in the Children’s Halloween Parade dressed as old ladies in honor of Girl Scouts’ 110th birthday. Their costumes earned them first place in the parade!

Dauphin County Girl Scouts give back to community with sweet potato harvest.

Girl Scouts from Troop 10010 in Dauphin County grew and harvested sweet potatoes in the Northern Dauphin Human Services Center’s community garden. Their harvest will be shared for free with community members in need.

Dauphin County Girl Scouts create an egg-ceptional float for local Halloween parade.

Girl Scouts from Troop 10970 in Dauphin County won fourth place in the Middle Paxton Parade with their egg and chick themed-float. They also used the opportunity to share with their community the joys of being in Girl Scouts.
