April Mission Moment Recap

It’s been a busy spring for Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania! Check out what troops have been up to in this month’s Mission Moment recap.

Going to the dogs in Columbia County

Cadettes in Troop 32452 worked on their Animal Helpers badge and enjoyed a visit from two K-9 police officers recently. K-9 Officer Sully and Officer Bradley of Central Columbia School District Police and K-9 Officer Miso and Officer Edgar of Bloomsburg Town Police informed the girls about their roles in the community.

Cookies for a cause in Dauphin County

PA State Sen. John DiSanto visited Troop 10286 at the Chambers Hill Fish Fry in March. He even helped the girls sell cookies during his visit. The girls plan to use their troop proceeds to make a donation to the Harrisburg Humane Society.

Caring for wildlife in Lycoming County

Troop 62019 of Hughesville and students at Ashkar Elementary School wore pajamas to school to support and show their love for an eagle who was found suffering from lead poisoning in late January. The students at Ashkar enjoy watching the eagles on a live camera, so this news was heartbreaking. After learning that Red Creek Wildlife Center was taking care of the eagle, the girls showed their support for the cause by donating $112 to the center in honor of the Girl Scouts’ 112th birthday.  And they’re happy to report, the eagle is on the mend!

Legislator supports Girl Scouts in Schuylkill County

Girls in Troop 31117 enjoyed a visit from State Rep. Tim Twardzik, who stopped by their booth at the Fairlane Village Mall in Pottsville. He purchased cookies and aided in sales.

High achievements in Dauphin County

Sylvia, a Daisy from Troop 10840, recently earned her Daisy Summit pin. Since becoming a Daisy, Sylvia has completed the following Journeys: Think Like an Engineer; Between Earth and Sky; and 5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Cheers for Animals. Her favorite Journey was Between Earth and Sky where she got to work in the garden at Camp Furnace Hills. She also had fun making a fairy house and working together as part of a team to make a car while earning the Think Like an Engineer Journey and learning about how to keep the Earth healthy in 5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Cheers for Animals. Currently, the troop is working on the Daisy Flower Garden Journey, and she loved planting seeds to see how they grow. The troop is also planning on working with neighborhood community gardens to make rain barrels for their Take Action project.

Sharing Girl Scout stories in York County

Troop 80088 in York County celebrated Girl Scouts Birthday in March with a cookie booth. In addition to selling cookies, the girls shared one thing they have learned about Girl Scouts with each customer. Way to spread the Girl Scout spirit, girls!

Celebrating Girl Scout Sunday in Lancaster County

Troops 71152 and 71266 participated in Girl Scout Sunday by leading the two services at their meeting place, Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church. They led the various readings, and provided ushers, greeters, and the flowers for the services. After the service, they provided punch and cookies for the congregation.

Making their voices heard in Dauphin County

Girls in Cadette Troop 14009 have taken an interest in supporting a bill currently in progress to provide menstrual equity in Pennsylvania. The girls wrote a letter of support for the bill to State Sen. Maria Collett. They received a letter back, inviting them to attend a press conference at the capitol to promote Gov. Shapiro’s $3 million budget investment in providing free period products in Pennsylvania’s public schools. What a great example of girls working to make the world a better place!
